I work in a very expressive and intuitive way, creating abstract paintings in oil paint, or sometimes acrylics, capturing thoughts and feelings about the world around me that I find easier to express in paint than in words. Using bold, gestural brushstrokes combined with subtle hints of veiled colour I create ethereal abstract compositions that aim to captivate the viewer and draw them into my world. The starting point for a painting could be a partly formed thought, a fragment of memory, a moment in time or a place half remembered.  Although my work often references elements from external landscapes, it is my response to a place or event that I am trying to capture rather than a representation of the thing itself.  Once I start to put paint onto canvas the painting seems to take on a life of its own, evolving through a process of mark making and adding and removing layers of paint; all the while I am observing and assessing the work until it feels complete.  I graduated with a degree in fine art from the University of Gloucestershire in 2014 and am based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire where I have a studio. I am a member of the Cheltenham Group of Artists and the Sixteen Collective group of artists.
